Instagram vs Covid-19

What Social Media Is Used More?

I believe that the most used social media platform for people my age is Instagram. Instagram is an app that was made for people to bring out your creative expression. It is a place where you can practically sell/promote anything. According to blog.hootsuite.com the gender demographic is very mixed with 52% being female and 48% being male. This is mainly due to the layout of the app. Originally it was used to post pictures about your daily life, what you wore that day, to what you ate for lunch. It was more likely for a female to post than a male. But people started to realize the potential that Instagram holds. Companies realized that they can in fact promote their products and post pictures and links to where they can buy what they are looking at. Around 200 million Instagram users now visit at least one business profile a day. Sometimes people do not realize that they are looking at a company’s profile until they see a link to go to their actual website. That is how good they have gotten to make their profile look like someone just posting on Instagram.

Don’t Companies Just Post Picture of Their Product?

A big example of how companies use Instagram is Nike. Nike does not post pictures of their shoes or their clothes. They post pictures of athletes doing what they do in their brand. It sucks people in especially younger people it influences them to buy the product so that they can do what those athletes do. When it comes to age this platform is mainly used by gen z and millennials. About 75% of Instagram’s daily users are 28-24 years old. From what I see on my discovery page is when there are “famous instagrammers” they all benefit from promotions, just like any average big money maker. But they have small promotions like if you use my code you get $5 and then they get $5 every time their promotion code is used. I have witnessed many small instagrammers get big in days. It doesn’t take much according to www.marieclaire.co.uk it only takes having 30,000 Instagram followers to start gaining true promotion deals.  It is an environment where you can be seen and one you can make a living off.

Did Covid-19 really affect Instagram and their influencers?

Although it doesn’t seem like it doesn’t take much to be an online influencer, it does require for you to have sponsorships to make a living off it. But since the pandemic started a lot of influencers started to see that their sponsorship deals were getting cancelled or their benefits from it getting reduced. It’s a big deal considering it’s how they make a living. Most people had to shift their focus on a different way to get more revenue so that they can continue to live the life they were living. Not only sponserships were being affected by the pandemic but also places to go affected some influencers. A lot of influencers are vlog based, where they would record everything that they are doing. Due to the pandemic a lot of places closed causing a shortage in available content. But they are finding ways to thrive and to connect with other people in quarantine.
