I am going to review ‘non-store’ retail careers with presentations provided to me by my Retail Sales class. I will be describing their duties what they do, requirements and my personal thoughts on the job. Also, how my college has prepared me to provide those skills that are needed to do these careers. First, we have an Associate Buyer, they keep inventory of supplies they keep in store and sell regularly. Making sure that inventory is current usage is on track and are using what you should be using based on your cost and keeping pricing consistent and upkeeping contracts. They make about 15K-42K a year. You need a 2-year degree for professional, but if you wanted a higher wage, you’d want your bachelor’s degree. To me this doesn’t seem like a bad job, but I notice and how in my job it is also given to store managers that are running their own branch/store. I’m an assistant manager and I do this and more and I’m not getting the pay for it. Then we have Email Marketing Managers, they utilize email communication tools to increase brand awareness, engage with consumers and are made to drive profit. In retail you’d only see this job when it comes to bigger stores. Skills for this job require deliverability, organization, having communication skills and teamwork. These are skills needed for when you must work by yourself but also must input everything that people recommend or what they want to be put out. Most importantly you’re going to want to know your SEO knowledge. They make around 42K-84K depending on qualifications. I think this job really does require a lot of teamwork and communication because it’s not them just writing an email it’s writing an email that’s going to be for all stores and must have all the information that is required and what other people requested it have. Next, we have a Purchasing Manger they buy products for companies, evaluate supplies and they negotiate contracts and review product quality. It requires you to have supply chain management knowledge, CRM and software experiences. And again, requires you to have communication skills. You can make up to 60K-140K. I think this job is a glorified associate buyer and they basically do the same thing just speak to higher ups, so I understand the importance of having good communication skills and listening skills. Next is a Retail Marketing Manager. You ensure that all products sell and that companies hit sales goals and they visit numerus stores to see how customers react to the products. This is a little more complicated and requires more work such as overseeing the budget, analyzing campaign performance, and making reports on marketing metrics as well. You’re going to need a lot more skill to be able to do this job like leadership skills, decision skills, strategic thinking, collaboration etc. I think this job is tricky and requires so much work and they probably get underpaid. And I was proven wrong they make 128K-208K DANG! It’s a job that requires a lot, so I’m not bothered and I’m glad they’re getting the pay they deserve. Lastly, we have Retail Presentation. They manage the stores, help customers, do inventory, do payroll and getting business. They also handle all the advertising and manage all local stores. No education is required. You get paid 60K-80K not the best if I’m being honest. You’re technically a glorified manager. I don’t mind this job I do it anyways without they pay. I think that my college has taught me all these skills from all my classes, I’ve learned how to deal with sales and how to manage my own website which helps in promotions and we’ve managed to learn about SEO and how to work analytic tools and we’re even brushing up on our writing by doing these types of posts. I think this school has really set us up to exceed within our degree and that’s exciting for me and for my classmates. I’m glad about the type of education that is given to us for the price.
